The woods and sugarhouse come to life in March as we make maple syrup at Chippewa Nature Center. Celebrate the ‘syruping season’ at CNC’s annual Maple Syrup Day festival with activities for all ages! 

Take a wagon ride to the Sugarhouse to see how we boil sap into pure maple syrup. You’ll also find an 1870s sap boiling demonstration and learn how to make syrup at home in small batches. Enjoy a guided tour of the sugarbush, practice tapping a tree or discover some sugarbush treasure with a scavenger hunt in the woods. Completed scavenger hunts will be entered into a prize drawing.

Near the schoolhouse, check out maple syrup story time (on the hour from 10 am-3 pm) or the maple puppet play (on the half hour from 10:30 am-3:30 pm). Head over to the Homestead area for maple games, crafts and a taste of “sugar on snow” as we make old fashioned maple syrup taffy.

In the Visitor Center, stop by the Nature Center Store for maple treats and other nature-based items for purchase. Event and pancake meal tickets may be purchased online before the festival.

Join the Sap Collection Team!

Help CNC staff collect maple sap to turn into sweet maple syrup! Weather conditions determine whether the sap will flow, so if it’s a sap collecting day, you will receive an email by 1 pm inviting you to meet CNC staff at 3 pm at the Sugarhouse for collection. If you’re available that day, we welcome you to come out, lend a hand and enjoy some time in the woods during this magical season.
