10 am-4 pm
Maple Syrup Day and the pancake breakfast are still on today! However, flood waters have closed Homestead Road making the sugarhouse inaccessible. All activities will be centered around the Visitor Center.
PLEASE NOTE: Whitman is closed and Poseyville Road may also close today due to flood waters. If you're coming from the City of Midland, please use M-20 to Homer Road to Prairie Road on your drive out to Chippewa Nature Center.

Crafts and hands-on activities in the Visitor Center will engage children of all ages as they discover the magic of maple syrup season. Watch the Midland Woodcarvers create their amazing projects. Learn more through hands-on activities and demonstrations just outside the Visitor Center at the Wigwam. Visit the Nature Center Store to find sweet treats and other nature-based items.
When you’re ready to see the process of making maple syrup, take a wagon ride to the Sugarhouse where we boil sap into pure maple syrup. You’ll also find an 1870s sap boiling demonstration, and learn how to make syrup at home in small batches. Enjoy a guided tour of the sugarbush and practice tapping a tree.
In the Schoolhouse, check out the maple puppet play (on the hour from 10 am-3 pm) or maple syrup story time (on the half-hour from 10:30 am-3:30 pm). Stop by the Homestead Cabin to enjoy the smell of maple recipes cooking on the wood stove, then swing by the Timber Frame Barn for a taste of “sugar on snow” as we make old fashioned maple syrup taffy.
