Working for the state of Michigan as an archaeologist has its ups and downs, but it is always interesting. The archaeology staff in the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) works on archaeological projects with other state agencies like MDOT, oversees archaeology on state land and Great Lakes bottomlands, fields questions about archaeology from the public, and makes a concerted effort to make archaeology accessible to everyone who is interested. This presentation highlights some of the most interesting recent activities of Dean Anderson, State Archaeologist, and the archaeology staff.
