Becoming Life Members …

As long as we have lived in Midland, the Chippewa Nature Center has been here for our family. We have had an annual family membership for as long as I can remember – CNC nature camps, fall festivals and the Oxbow archaeology group have been an integral part of our lives. We eagerly anticipate the art sales and the native plants sales. We have encountered otters, beaver, skunks, mink, skinks, crayfish, toads, frogs, snakes … and deer, eagles, turkeys, sandhill cranes, several owl species and a myriad of other feathered CNC visitors – all on the CNC property, right in Midland’s ‘backyard.’

This past summer, we took up kayaking as offered through the CNC outings. An evolution to a life membership seemed natural. Our children are now grown. Now, we enjoy family history unfolding with our grandson. We will continue to enjoy the programs and events – and the non-scheduled times to just quietly explore. With a life membership, we know that we help CNC provide these opportunities now and into the future for the Midland community as well.

Why do we have a life membership to CNC? The answer is in the word ‘life.’ Chippewa Nature Center became part of our lives soon after we moved to Midland in 1981. Our children enjoyed the many programs and camps, and Kevin and I enjoyed the family trips out to the Nature Center. In our retirement, the Nature Center still gives to us through the Oxbow Archaeology Group and the many opportunities to be in nature (most recently kayaking on the river). Now it is our turn to give to the Nature Center. Through donations and our life membership, we celebrate the gift that is Chippewa Nature Center. It is our hope that many more lifetimes will be enriched by this very special place.
