Oxbow Archaeology Activities and Participants

 

2007

        In 2007 the Oxbow Archaeologists continued excavations at the Sias East site (20MD263), working in the 110 West Block.  In July, August and September they also worked at the Naugle site (20MD30) in preparation for expansion of CNC's Visitor Center.  Terry Martin also conducted a faunal workshop for the Oxbow Archaeologists.

2006

2005

        In 2005 the Oxbow Archaeologists began excavations at the Sias East site (20MD263).

2004

        In 2004 the Oxbow Archaeologists continued excavations at the Ponton site, working on Features 4 and 5.

          There were 21 participants:  Scott Beld (mentor/director), Dennis Cramer (CMU student), Kevin Frazier, Dave Frurip, Brigitte Glaser, John Heintz, Jessica Husted (high school student), Conrad Latuszek, Marianne McKelvy, John Osborne, Melissa Palmer, Elisabeth Paymal, Francis Phetteplace, Catherine Price, Dennis Pilaske, Al Stark, Dee Dee Wacksman, Michael Wilken, Henry Wright (University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology), Greg Young (Wayne State University student), and Lia Young.

 

2003

            In 2003 the Oxbow Archaeologists continued excavations at the Ponton site.  Scott Beld and Terry Martin conducted a two weekend workshop on field techniques and faunal identification.

            There were 17 participants:  Scott Beld (mentor/director), Kevin Frazier, Dave Frurip, John Heintz, Jennifer Jezwoski, Conrad Latuszek, Terry Martin (Illinois State Museum), Marianne McKelvy, John Osborne, Francis Phetteplace, Art Pomranky, Liz Seelhof, Al Stark, Mary Wackerle, Jim Woodgate, Greg Young, and Lia Young.

 

2002

2001

2000

            In 2000 the Oxbow Archaeologists excavated at site 20MD534.  Terry Martin conducted a faunal identification workshop for the Oxbow Archaeologists.

1998

            In 1998 the Oxbow Archaeologists continued excavations at the Cater site in the midden.  Scott Beld and Terry Martin conducted  a two weekend workshop to introduce field techniques and faunal identification.

            There were 31 participants in the 1998 season:  Dean Anderson (Office of the State Archaeologist), Holly Bark (CMU student), Scott Beld (mentor/director), Becky Bonham, Kevin Frazier, Dave Frurip, Al Getzin, Erin Getzin, Kristin Getzin, Brigitte Glaser, Donna Hiser, Conrad Latuszek, Dan Little, Katherine Marson, Terry Martin (Illinois State Museum), Tim Martin, Karla Mattsson, Mike Mauer, Alex McKelvy, Marianne McKelvy, Marsha McDonald, John Osborne, Dennis Pilaske, Barbara Richards, Jeff Sommer, Dennis Spann, Al Stark, Blair Templin, Mary Wackerle, Dee Dee Wacksman, and Jim Woodgate.

1997

1996

            In 1996 the Oxbow Archaeologists continued excavations at the Cater site.  At the end of the season the sheet midden was identified.

            In the 1994 season the Oxbow Archaeologists excavated at the Cater site.  James Payne (then a graduate student at the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropology) held a two weekend field school to introduce basic field methods.

 1993

The Oxbow Archaeologists began there activities in 1993.  In this year they located, examined and organized the archaeology collections at CNC and conducted some shovel tests and a metal detector survey at the Cater site.
