Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Marianne, Nik, Dee Dee and I made it out to the site on Saturday (see
Map).
We began excavating unit 2S-98W and found several flakes and bone fragments. We
recovered several cordmarked bodysherds at 15 cm (see
Photo 1).
There was also a Middle Woodland rimsherd with an exterior node/interior
punctate at 15 cm (see Photo 2). There is some char on the interior
of this rimsherd so we should be able to get a date (particularly if we find
some more). We also excavated the 65-75 cm levels of unit 2S-112W on the west
side of the excavation. These levels were sterile and we are below the Middle
Woodland occupation in this unit.
Wednesday, Marianne and I processed flotation samples.
We will plan on excavating at Sias East this Saturday.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
