Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Next Wednesday (7-14-04) is Volunteer Appreciation Day at CNC with a picnic in
the evening at the “tridge.” Instead of doing lab work, we’ll plan on going to
the “tridge.”
I heard back from Terry about the bone and tooth from Feature 4. The tooth (see
Photo 1 in the photo gallery below) is “a
lower canine of a pig (probably a male)” and the bone (see
Photo 2 and
Photo 3) is “a left distal humerus from a cow with knife cuts on the
proximal part of the shaft.” You can see a knife cut in
Photo 3 on the right end of the bone – I
also noticed some more on other parts of the bone when I washed it Wednesday.
Also I’ve attached a picture of a Clew’s “Bakers Falls, Hudson River” plate that
I found on the web (see Photo 4 in the
photo gallery) and the picture of our sherd (see
Photo 5) so you can compare them.
Tomorrow we’ll excavate at the Ponton site. We’ll try to finish Feature 4 and
begin Feature 5!
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
