Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Marianne, Nik, Becky, Kevin, Lia, and I made it out to the
site yesterday and had a good day excavating.
We spent the day taking the units in the 3S row that we were
excavating last week to 30-35 cm and some of the units in the 2S row that we
began last year to 35-40 cm (see Map). The units in the 3S row are
producing numerous flakes, bone fragments, some pottery and F.C.R. The deeper
units in the 2S row are producing less material though there may be a couple
small features in 2S-103W and 2S-102W.
We recovered three interesting artifacts yesterday. 2S-102W
produced a heavily reworked hafted biface/point (see
Photo 1).
We recovered a biface from 3S-102W (see
Photo 2). And we found
another rimsherd from the crosshatched Rueben Linear vessel (Photo
3 --
also see
Rueben Linear Rimsherd).
This week we will plan on excavating at Sias East on both
Wednesday evening and Saturday. I forgot my camera Saturday and still need to
take pictures of the unit floors, so I'll be at the site Wednesday afternoon.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
