Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,

Marianne, Nik, Greg, Lia and I made it out to the site on Saturday.

In the morning we excavated the 25-30 cm level of unit 3S-101W and the 30-35 cm level of 3S-102W (see Map). These levels produced the usual flakes and bone fragments. In the afternoon, Greg, Lia, and I gridded out a unit to the about 12-13 meters west of our current excavation at 3S-125W in an effort to see how far the Middle Woodland occupation extended. We excavated this unit to 30 cm (about 5-10 cm below the plow zone). We recovered a few flakes (4 or 5 Upper Mercer chert from a early Late Woodland occupation) and a small biface fragment (see Photo 1). It was clear that the Middle Woodland occupation does not extend this far west. The Middle Woodland occupation (110 West Block) now appears to be quiet small extending less than 25 meters along the terrace.

This week we will be at the Resource Building Wednesday evening. Next Saturday we will plan on excavating at Sias East.

Hope to see you at the site.

Scott
