Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,

Dave, Kevin, Nik, Becky and I made it out to the site on Saturday and began excavating unit 2S-99W – starting where we left off last fall (see the map and pictures).  We recovered several flakes, bone fragments, etc. At 20 cm we encountered several sherds including a rimsherd and punctuated bodysherd of the Middle Woodland vessel we dated last fall!  Several sherds were left in situ because it was just too wet to excavate still. We’ll get back to them in a couple weeks.  We left the site about 11:30 and it rained almost all afternoon.

I went out to the site on Wednesday and a large part of the field is flooded which will make it difficult to get equipment out to the site, so we will not plan on digging next Saturday. Instead we will work in the Resource Building.

Hope to see you at the RB.

Scott
