Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,

Yesterday was sort of a mixed day. It was raining off and on in the morning, so John, Marianne, Dave, and I worked in the lab.

In the afternoon, it cleared a little and I went to the site. I managed to excavate one test unit, 505R515, on the southwest end of the site (see Map - October 16, 2004). There wasn’t a whole lot in it, but I did find the base of an Early Woodland stemmed (Kramer) point (ca. 800-400 B.C. – see Photo 1). It started to rain when I was getting ready to dig a second unit, so I returned to the RB.

I’ve also attached a picture of the point we found on Wednesday – it is simply a notched flake (see Photo 2).

This Wednesday we’ll plan on excavating at the site again. If it’s dry enough we’ll excavate test units. If not,we’ll dig units under the tarps.

Next Saturday, we’ll plan on excavating at the site as usual.

Hope to see you at the site.

Scott
